Party Animal

It was another busy weekend in New York! On Saturday we went to a goodbye potluck dinner for Kevin, Annick, and Giselle. There were 9 adults and 5 babies, which made for quite a crowd. The kids (all between 15 and 16 months) mixed well, with the occasional hair pulling. As you can see Sorin was quite the party animal.

On Sunday we took a trip to Hoboken, NJ, to visit Thadeous' friend Kerry and his family. I was a bit suspicious of going to New Jersey, but Hoboken is very cute. We had a picnic in the park and Sorin had a great time filling and emptying a pail of water (oh, and dumping it on Mum's toes!).

Sorin sees Chihuly

Today we took a trip up to the New York Botanical Gardens to see the glass sculptures of Chihuly. They, and the gardens, were gorgeous. The day started with a brisk walk down to Grand Central, during which Sorin fell asleep, a train ride up to the Bronx, a quick lunch, and then lots of walking around the Conservatory and gardens. Being a city baby, Sorin was particularly fascinated with the chains and ropes blocking off some of the gardens, but when pried away he seemed to enjoy the scenery. Here he is with Mum by one of the sculptures, and examining some pine cones with Dad. It's so much fun to see things through Sorin's eyes (if not a bit frustrating sometimes). Every day he is more and more his own person, complete with likes and dislikes and a pretty strong will! It's a new adventure, for all of us.

Future basketball star

Luckily for Sorin he seems to have inherited his Dad's aptitude for anything physical. He is (in my unbiased opinion) an extremely well-coordinated 15-month-old. He loves balls (although hasn't quite grasped the concept of throwing yet), and here he was thrilled when Dada lifted him high enough for a slam dunk.

Sunday in New York

The weather was absolutely beautiful this weekend (very welcome after a record-breaking week), and Sorin, Mum, and Dad were very busy. Today we visited the Children's Museum for the first time. It's on the west side, so we took a "buh" to get there when it opened (not to be confused with the buhs that travel up and down the river, the buhs that you throw, the buhs that you blow, or the buhs that hold milk). Sorin was quite insistant that he sit in his own seat, and did so quite proudly. The museum itself is sort of a play/learn space. On the first floor they had an "exhibit" devoted to Clifford the Big Red Dog. Being a dog-lover Sorin thought this was awesome (although the concept of Clifford as a character was bit beyond him). There was a huge fiberglass Clifford to climb on, a dog house to explore, instruments to play, and much more. On the other floors there were blocks, art stations, taxi and bus replicas, and book themed areas. Oh, and outside there was a water exhibit, which was a big hit. We will definitely have to return.

After the museum we had a quick brunch and then Sorin passed out in his stroller on the walk home (via a street fair). Unfortunately, as seems to be the case most weekends, his nap was short, but that didn't seem to phase him. We headed over to St. Catherine's Park to hang out with misting elephants and play in the sand box. Let's just say Sorin needed a good bath tonight!

Welcome to my house

Sorin LOVES to play in his house. It's a talking house--the door says "open" and "close," and "hello" and "goodbye." The window goes up and down, the sun rises and sets, the doorbell rings, and the light goes on and off. It's all great fun. The house has been used even more these past few days since it's too hot to go outside. This was a wonderful Birthday gift from Nonna and Nonno. There are a few pieces of baby equipment and toys that have something magic that makes them so worthwhile (or maybe earn their keep?), and this is one of them!
